According to an American Educational Research Association study from earlier this year, rankings like these can significantly affect the application rates to listed schools. If we could not handle too much workload for a single course, then we would not survive in any workplace. What I learned in this course is going to help me in my future. I have learned many different skills that I am going to need when working in groups or with different background people. I learned how to identify different types of people. In true colors, there different ways of how to deal with people based on their true colors. Knowing how to approach people differently is a very important skill that can save anyone from having conflicts. I also learned the five dysfunctions of a team. Moreover, I learned what they cause if they exist in a team. More importantly, I learned how to overcome them when they exist. The five dysfunctions are the main issues that a team must be aware of. They can destroy any team success. The first dysfunction is an absence of trust between members of a team. It is very important to have trust established among team members in order to success. Absence of trust leads to the second dysfunction which is fear of conflict. Fear of conflict makes team discussion boring. It is like no one wants to challenge others ideas. If fear of conflict exists among team members, the third dysfunction will exist as well. Lack of commitment is the third dysfunction. The forth dysfunction (avoidance of accountability) is caused when lack of commitment occurs within a team. Finally, inattention to results is the fifth dysfunction that occurs when team members thinks individually. This course has taught these five dysfunctions and how to avoid them from happing within a team. Besides, I have learned many skills that these skills are going to help me in my future. More importantly, my team (the seven dwarves) has also taught many different things. Also, through numerous group meetings, chapters’ readings and class activities I learned how to mingle with different people and respond to open discussion. When I think of the way of education in my country, I always compare the experience that I have been through in Thompson Rivers University. In my country, I rarely had teamwork in all the classes. I always had individual assignments. In Canada, I was introduced to the importance of teamwork. Now, I have a clear idea on how to appreciate working with others. Being involved in teamwork has always been challenging for me. However, I feel that I am always helping my team to accomplish its goals and tasks. Teamwork is a concept that I am planning to apply it not only in workplace but also in my life. In showing our true colors, I learned that people behave differently based on their true colors. There are people who do things on time and have a plan for every task, while others get their tasks or assignments at the very last minute. It is amusing to observe different behavior from different people who happen to do the same task. For example, in one of my courses, I was with a group and we had a project to do. One of the team members was not contributing to help the team members, while others were committed to the project. We asked him to do the easiest part of the project, yet, he had not done anything. Finally, we had to kick him out of the group. What I noticed during our meeting at that time that one of members did the part of the guy we kicked before kicking him out. That taught me not to count on anybody that not contributing to the team and to be ready for any emergency that might occur. Our teacher was aware of what was going on in all the teams at that course. Why she did not say anything to help us with the issue (we asked). She said that she wanted us to solve our issue by ourselves, and to learn how face conflicts. Well, I really appreciated that she wanted us to be independent and not to ask for help for every issue that we might encounter in our lives. True colors have taught me how to identify different behaviours. True colors have four different colors. Each color has its own characteristics. For example, blues are considered to be optimistic, passionate, caretaker and true romantic etc.  unlike blues, greens are considered to be problem solver, very complex, intellectual, and driven by competence. Golds are considered to be efficient. They are said to be prepared, loves to plan, punctual, and well-organized. In contrast to golds, oranges characteristics are completely different. They are energetic, loves to change, playful, pushes boundaries, and â€Å"just do it†. Knowing these four colors and their characteristics can help people to communicate with each type appropriately. I learned through this course that there some skills in order to communicate with all the colors easily. One of the skills is that I should pay attention to the behaviour and needs of someone. Also, I learned how to avoid generalizing. Understanding how to communicate with these colors will save me from stereotyping people. During this course, I have gained personal complements from my team mates. My team (the seven dwarves) and this course are the main reasons why I received these complements. After learning how to deal with the different colors, I have applied this skill during our meetings so far. My team members are willing to help each other. Despite the fact that we are culturally different, we tried to find common interests and talk about them during meetings. The seven dwarves are consisted of two Canadians, two French, and two Saudis. This nice mixture has helped us to be more open in our discussion. During meetings, we have not discussed any topics that might create a conflict. We focused on our goals and had small friendly discussions. Also, we were open-minded and helpful. What I experienced during the meetings, everyone was willing to help others finishing their parts of the tasks. There was no member holding himself/herself back. Everyone’s idea was appreciated and was taken into consideration. Then, we revised all the ideas and agreed on the ones that were included in our presentation. Finally, a group without norms can suffer and have dysfunctional members. During the course classes, I learned a lot of useful skills. I learned that when you show respect you get respect. Also, being in a class where there are lots of activities taught me many things. For example, we had some unexpected presentations that we told to do in the class. That taught me to be prepared for things that might happen that we are not aware of. Also, there were presentations that I observed some bad attitudes towards the presenters. For example, some students a few students were not paying attention to the presenters. That also taught me a valuable thing. When you want to be listened to, you have to listen to others as well. Back to the true colors, true colors have some exceptions. For example, not necessary that all blues function as blues, there are blues who have combined characteristics. The same thing is for other colors. More importantly, true colors have things in common. For example, blue and green have introspection in common. Also, blue and orange have human interaction in common. Blue and gold have cooperation and collaboration in common. These are what blue has in common with other colors. Green and gold has order and organization in common. Green and orange has independence in common. Finally, orange and gold have tangibles in common. Lack of commitment was our presentation. In this presentation, we learned how lack of commitment can destroy a team goals and tasks. We chose this presentation to learn more about commitment and its benefits within a team. I learned that members who are not willing to help the team the reason for causing this dysfunction. Also, lack of commitment is caused by consensus and certainty. That was our introduction to the class. When it came to activities, we had spent too much time to find activities that would help us fist then the class to understand this kind of dysfunction. We had three activities that actually helped me to understand the lack of commitment. Why teams fail to commit. There are some reasons why teams fail to commit. First, miscommunication is one of the reasons that cause lack of commitment. Having poor communication between the leader and his/her team members will lead to unclear instructions which obviously will lead to a breakdown of the team and eventually to failure. Second, leadership is an important skill that a leader must have in order to lead his or her team to success. Having an unqualified leader, whether his/her team members have great ability or not, more often will result in failure. Third, lack of planning is one of the issues that can destroy any task or project. Planning is considered as a basic foundation in team’s building. When there is no foundation, absolutely there is failure. Forth, lack of accountability, which means that every member must contribute to help the team get the task done. Also, members should be prepared for consequences of a failed job. Most importantly, the leader has to point out the weak links between the team members and correct them. Fifth, unclear role designation often leads to lack of commitment. To solve unclear role designation, a person in charge must delegate roles to make sure that each member fulfills his/her duties. It is a clear example of how the smallest broken cog in a machine can result in the malfunction and complete breakdown of the whole team. Finally, bad decision and poor judgment can often add to the team’s failure, depending upon the different thinking and the abilities of different team members. Personally, I used to have some these reasons. I am trying to overcome them. In this class, I have overcome some of the issues that I used to have. Above all, I remember the second week of this course. We studied about team- building skills. I also have in my journal some salient points that we should remember. These points are: * Teams exist to achieve goals * Teams’ members are interdependent regarding some common goals. * Teams are bounded a stable over time. Teams’ members have the authority to manage their own work and internal processes. * Teams operate in a social system context. Most importantly, I learned a valuable skill which is keeping learning journal. Keeping journal is important in order to keep up with the class or anything else. To sum up, this course has helped me understanding the importance of teamwork in different situations. Also, the course has taught me about different type of people based on their TRUE COLORS and how to deal with them. In addition, I have learned about different roles that we can play in our lives.

This issue was ordinary to take place in Malaysian students which is learning more than one language. Our country students usually learned more than three language likes national language, mother language and etc. Our ministry of education set English as a second language in Malaysia, so Malaysian English Language Instructors and ESL (English as second Language) requires learners tend to use more than one code of language in the context of formal classroom. Now, we wants to discuss the factors that cause ESL learners to code switch and how to overcome it. 2.1 Feel More Comfortable, Environment, Lack of Confidence The first factors it cause students cannot switching code immediately because they not usual to use English and also feel custom and more comfortable to use their own language. They prefer to use their own language because it is more smoothed and easy communicate with their friend. Besides that, they also did not have a good environment or social to speak English. Take one example, we was grow in a family which does not often speak English and we just only use our mother language to communicate with our family’s in home, that is a big problem for us to learn and speak English properly. The problem will cause the students lack of confidence to speak English because they do not have basic for speak to other people. Last but not least, they also will feel shy to use English because they are afraid of speaking mistakes. 2.2 Lack of Motivation, Lack of Interest, Lack of Enforcement Furthermore, they also lack of motivation because they do not get any courage from their friend or family. When students do not have enough vocabulary word they  cannot speak any perfects English. If they cannot speak English properly, they will give their friend laugh and it will causes they do not have more interest in English. Besides that, they will also give up to learn English and also will drop out of study. Motivation may be expect to improve when class take into account students likes in teaching style and lesson material. Additionally, parents did not enforce their children to speak and learn English in home. Parents also lack of accompany with their children to teach them important of English or another language in the whole world even tourism and doing business. 2.3 Watch more English videos, more interaction, talk with others race After the factors let us talk about solutions to overcome the problem students who are face it. Lecturers can takes some video from youtube or google to share with students but ensure the video can help students to improve their English. They can also listen music English or see an English movie to increase their listen and speaking skill. We must let students have more interaction and practice among them when during lesson. Lecturers should break them into different group with different language or country to get more chance to be in touch with English in class. 2.4 Join the activity can improve English, Attended to tuition, Penalty The parents need to speak with them in English and without home language at home to improve their basic in speaking. Parents also can send them to counselling or campaign for training them to use English in social life. Students must me hardworking and go to a place which availability of additional resources or knowledge to increase their vocabulary. To give those students cannot handle the basics English parents should force them to attend tuition class. When students in the school or college, lecturers must be ensure students are in the English speaking zone to communicate with their friend without other language. I can take an example that I will use software to supervise my homework and revision to ensure that I will not waste the precious time. 2.2 Replace Pen and Paper, Use To Memory, E-learning Apart from that, using cell phones to do home works or assignments can replace the pen and reduce the paper so that this will help to reduce deforestation as well as keep away from greenhouse effect. The cell phones can also become a â€Å"memory card†, when the student insufficient time to write down all the points that the lecturers given or he or she absents the lessons, they can just take a picture and do revision at home. Furthermore, they still can take out these pictures to revise before the examination. In this way it is killing two birds with one stone a stone. Additionally, they can use for E-learning in internet by using a cell phone with their friends and lectures to discuss homework or which are they do not understand in the lesson. 2.3 Distraction Class, Cheating, Bullying Every coin has two sides, cell phone also bring some disadvantages to us. Let us discuss the disadvantages of a cell phone right now. The cell phones also bring out many troubles to students like distract the lecturer and all their friends. The meaning distract is stand for while lecturer teaching in the class the students who play games and the worst is cell phones ringing will disturb the whole class force to stop the class. After that, the students will also laugh at which classmates those who are not using the latest phone. I will Design and Carry Out my PEP on the Basis of me Being a Football Player Essay

I will design and carry out my PEP on the basis of me being a football player. I am 14 years and 6 months old and have been playing football since about the age of 5. I enjoy the game and I am quite good at it. Although I am quite good I would like to train to become better at the sport and increase my overall fitness level. I am generally fit but there is definitely room for improvement and I will look to do so. When I leave school I plan to join the British Army so I would like to become fit so that I can fulfil my plans. Over the 6 weeks that I carry out the training regime I will give it 100% and really try to improve my fitness and footballing skills. I want to make the best of my ability at football so I can enjoy what I do and hopefully it will benefit the Sunday league club that I play for. I play for Aspull Juniors. I have done so for 5 years now and enjoy playing for the team. I play in the centre of midfield and play in more of a defensive role. This position allows me to put a lot of effort in and influence the game. I am a good tackler of the ball and can pass good as well. For the job that I do on the football pitch I need to have a good stamina (so I can cope with the demands of the football math), good flexibility (so I don’t stretch my muscles when making tackles), good balance (to pass the ball and make vital tackles), strength (to out muscle opponents and kick the ball far), speed (to get to the ball quicker than the opponent), and good reaction time (this is so I can react to the ball quicker than an opponent.) My PEP should help me to improve all of these skills and as a result I will become a better football player. I have never suffered any long-term injuries of any kind and have no recurring injuries. Other sports that I enjoy to do are fishing, golf, tennis and table tennis. Although I do none of these sports competitively I am interested in them and have done for fun. PEP For my PEP I will use a pyramid session to gradually increase my fitness during the 6 weeks. I will use a badminton court as my guide and say that double the length of the court is equal to one length. I will increase the lengths as the program progresses to create an overload required to increase my fitness. I chose a pyramid session because I feel it is the most reliable way of increasing my fitness. Also I know that it will be easier to create an overload in either the amount of lengths or exercises that I do if I use a pyramid session. From when I have used this session in the past I have found that it always gives me a good workout and can be used to good effect. I will start and progress my PEP over the weeks using the FITT principal. I will increase the frequency by doing more exercises and by doing more running more often. I will increase the intensity by increasing the amount of exercise that will be done. I will do this by adding more lengths onto my pyramid session and more exercise in between. I will increase the time by putting more time into the exercises in between runs. The type will also be changed. I will change the fitness test that I will do after the pyramid sessions each week. The PEP that I have designed is one that I think will improve my overall fitness the most and also improve the skills that I need as a football player. It will start with a 5 minute jog. This jog will warm up my muscles so that they are not too stiff to stretch otherwise I will increase the chances of a ripped or torn muscle. After the jog I will move on to my stretches. They will be thoroughly carried out so not to allow any muscle injury whatsoever can occur. The stretches are one of the most important parts of the PEP and must be done with care and thought. If these are not done correctly than I will run the chance of pulling or tearing a muscle. The Pyramid Session starts by running the maximum amount of lengths you are wishing to do and then gradually working your way down until there are no more lengths to complete. In between lengths you are required to do exercises. For example, if I was planning to do 16 lengths I would do 16 lengths then a chosen exercise. After the exercise you then do 15 lengths then the exercise, then 14 lengths then a exercise and so on until there are no more lengths to complete. This Pyramid Session will progress throughout the 6 weeks of the PEP. Week 1 I will be doing 10 lengths, Week 2 and 3 I will be doing 12 lengths, Week 4 and 5 I will do 14 lengths and for the final week I will do 16 lengths. As the weeks progress an overload is created which will help me improve my fitness. The Warm Up For my warm up I will be doing a 5 minute jog around the All Weather pitch. The warm up is to warm the muscles up before stretching so I do not pull a muscle. I will time myself and be sure not to strain myself as this too could result in a pulled muscle if not careful. The Leg Exercises – Squats, Burpees, Switch Overs, Star Jumps These exercises will build up my leg muscles and allow me to put more power into a shot or long pass. These exercises will build up the strength and power in my legs and will allow me to hit a ball further and this will improve my skill as a football player. I have done more leg exercises than arm and body exercises because I feel that my legs are needed more on a football pitch. The Body Exercises – Sit Ups, Crunches The body exercises that I will do will allow me to build up my middle body muscles and will help me to become stronger and flexible in that area. This will help me when I play football because I will be able to adjust the middle part of my body easier and this will help me when I am playing. The Arm Exercises – Bench Press, Press Ups By doing these arm exercises it will improve my upper body strength and this will make it easier to shrug off opponents when challenging for a ball in a game. The exercises will build up the muscles in my arms and this can help when taking a throw-in. The Cool Down For the cool down I will do a light jog and then stretch. The cool down is to prevent lactic acid from settling in the muscles and producing cramps. This is just as important as the warm up and is needed to prevent injury after the PEP. Stretches Hamstring- I would sit on the ground then bend over front wards and touch the top of my shin, I would hold this for 10 seconds. Then I would sit up rest and then bend over front wards again only this time touching the toes rather than the shin. Quads- I would stand and balance myself against a wall with one arm then I would grab the left leg bend it backwards so the foot is touching my bum and hold for 10 seconds. Then I would stop rest and change legs. Groin Stretch- I would sit on the ground and put the soles of each foot together in a yoga sort of position. Then slowly put pressure on the inside of each leg to stretch the groin. Upper Arm- Place one arm in front of me and place the other arm underneath the arm that is held out and grab the shoulder. After this swap arms and do exactly the same. Hold each stretch for 10 seconds. Week 1 The warm up and the stretches went well and I then began my Pyramid Session. I had planned to do 10 lengths this week. I found that the Pyramid Session worked well. I completed the 10 lengths with ease but the exercises were quite challenging. At the end of all the lengths and exercises I found myself out of breath but I was pleased with the work I had done. I then went out onto the all weather pitch to do a 50 metre sprint. I did the sprint in 8.12 seconds which was a personal best. After the sprint I did a 5 minute jog and then stretched for 5 minutes. Evaluation I was very pleased with what I did this week but thought that I could handle more lengths than what I had done. The exercises that I did were quite demanding but I thought they would be easier to handle next week and was looking forward to the challenge. I was extremely pleased with the speed that I achieved in the 50 metre sprint and although it wasn’t a huge amount of time I did beat my personal best. Week 2 This week I had set myself 12 lengths to do but I wasn’t particularly worried about the task ahead. I started off with the 5 minute jog and a thorough stretch and then I began my Pyramid Session. The session went well again this week. Similar to last week I found that the exercises were again quite tough and challenging but the lengths were completed without much difficulty. After the Pyramid Session this week, I had set my self the throw/catch ball test. This was not physically challenging but I had to concentrate to get the 35 score that I got. This was not the best score I had ever had but I was pleased with the result. Evaluation I was again pleased with this week. The increase in lengths never really affected my performance this week. They were more challenging than the previous week but never caused a major problem throughout the session. The throw/catch ball test that I did was more about finding a rhythm and concentrating rather than a physical test. Week 3 After the initial warm up and stretch I moved onto another week of the 12 length Pyramid Session. This week it again never caused a huge problem but I was still tired towards the end of the session. The exercises still caused similar problems as they did in the first week and were tiring. It was this week when I began to feel an improvement in my fitness. After I completed the Pyramid Session I then went and did the muscular endurance test in the hotel foyer. My previous best at this test was 100 seconds but this week I nearly doubled that score with 190 seconds. I was extremely pleased with this result. At the end of the session I did a 10 minute cool down. Evaluation I found that the 12 lengths didn’t pose too much of a problem for me this week and I was looking forward to the challenge of 14 lengths next week. I think that the exercises again provided a challenge for me and I began to feel the improvement in my fitness. I was extremely pleased with the score I achieved in the muscular endurance test. I think that I did well this week and was looking forward to the next few weeks ahead. Week 4 Due to a Dentist appointment I was unable to complete the regime at school. As a result I set up a training course on a football field behind my house and carried out my session to the best of my ability taking the environment and lack of equipment into condition. I worked hard for 1 hour and was pleased with the workout I had. Week 5 This week was my first attempt in school of attempting the 14 lengths I had set. Firstly, I did the warm up and stretches then got started with the Pyramid Session. It began like the others had but towards the end I found that this session was a lot more tiring than the previous weeks. At the end my legs were aching and I was really tired. I had created the overload and felt the affect. Although I was tired I was pleased with the task I had done and was looking to the week ahead. The test this week was a standing broad jump. I managed to get a score of 1 metre 52 centimetres. I was quite pleased with the score although it was not a personal best. After the test I went outside where I did a 5 minute jog and stretched off to avoid cramped muscles. Evaluation I was pleased with the effort that I put in today and could feel a definite improvement in my fitness. I thought that 14 lengths were very challenging and along with the leg, arm and middle body exercises produced a Pyramid Session which would challenge me. The standing broad jump that I did was not spectacular but I was pleased with the result. Week 6 For this week I was supposed to do 16 lengths, but because I missed week 4 I decided that I would carry on with 14 lengths. I went outside and did the warm up followed by the stretches then went inside to carry out the Pyramid Session. The 14 lengths were challenging but I felt an improvement in my fitness and they were easier to complete than the lengths last week. The test for my final week was a repeat of the throw/catch ball test. I carried it out in the Sports Hall and beat the score I had gotten previously. I got a score of 33, beating the score of week 2 and equalling my personal best. Evaluation I was pleased with the work that I had done in my final week. I found that the 14 lengths in the Pyramid Session were easier to complete than the previous week. I was pleased with the level of my fitness and was pleased with the score I achieved in the throw/catch ball test. Final Evaluation Throughout my PEP I have seen my overall fitness gradually increase from week to week. I would definitely say the regime has been a success and recommend it to people wishing to improve their fitness. The Pyramid Session provides a challenge from week to week and the exercises between the lengths make it a very demanding regime. I was pleased with the work that the exercises did and at the end of the 6 week program saw an improvement in my leg muscles, middle and upper body strength. I am extremely pleased with the improvement and success that the PEP has had.
